A high-level delegation from the Government of Israel arrived today in Hargeisa, the capital of the Republic of Somaliland, marking a significant diplomatic development between the two sides. The delegation is led by Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Saar, accompanied by senior government officials.
Upon landing at Hargeisa International Airport, the delegation was formally received and escorted to the Presidential Palace, where they held an important meeting with the President of Somaliland and senior members of his administration. The discussions focused on major strategic issues, with both sides addressing avenues for cooperation and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
The visit follows Israel’s announcement on the 26th of last month recognizing Somaliland, making it the first country to publicly declare such a move. Officials described the talks as constructive and forward-looking, emphasizing mutual interests in political, economic, and security cooperation.
The visit is widely seen as a milestone in Somaliland’s diplomatic efforts and a potential turning point in its international engagement, as Hargeisa continues to expand its global partnerships and seek broader recognition on the world stage.
