The 37th session of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland, chaired by the Vice President and Acting President of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, was held today at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa.
During the meeting, members of the Cabinet discussed several key national matters, including internal security, the economic situation, drought conditions, foreign policy, and the general state of the country’s healthcare system.
The Minister of Interior, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, briefed the Cabinet on the country’s security situation, confirming that overall stability prevails throughout Somaliland and that there are no incidents of unrest or disorder. He also noted that the political environment remains calm and that the President’s ongoing peace dialogues in the city of Ceerigaabo are progressing successfully. However, the Minister expressed concern over the growing number of road accidents, calling them a national challenge that requires collective action.
The Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Abdilahi Hassan Aden, informed the meeting about the country’s fiscal performance, emphasizing the steady collection of domestic revenues and the positive growth of the national economy. He noted that the government is prioritizing domestic production, investment, and the strengthening of economic institutions. The State Minister for Finance, Ismail Mowlid Abdilahi, also shared technical data on key financial and trade metrics used to shape national economic policy.
The Minister of Religious Affairs, Sheikh Abdullahi Baashe Dahir Jama, representing the National Drought Relief Committee, reported that rainfall has been received in many regions but that water shortages persist in the eastern parts of the country. He highlighted that relief efforts, including the distribution of food aid and the rehabilitation of water wells, are progressing well.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdirahman Dahir Aadan, presented an update on Somaliland’s diplomatic efforts. He explained that Somaliland’s recognition campaign is advancing, particularly with growing attention from members of the U.S. Congress. He added that the ministry continues to strengthen diplomatic relations and engage in strategic dialogue with international partners to enhance Somaliland’s global image and advocate for its recognition.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, provided a general overview of the health sector, noting that the government is improving medical services, expanding health facilities, and increasing staff training. He stated that progress has been seen in maternal and child healthcare, vaccination programs, and disease prevention. The Ministry is also cooperating closely with both local and international organizations to ensure quality health services for the public.
The Cabinet reaffirmed the government’s commitment to stability, economic resilience, and social development. The meeting concluded with appreciation for the ongoing work of all ministries in upholding national interests and strengthening Somaliland’s position at home and abroad.
