Eyewitnesses near the compound reported that the blast was followed by the sound of heavy gunfire inside the building, raising fears that an armed attack may be underway. Security forces have reportedly sealed off the surrounding area as emergency services rushed to the scene.
Godka Jilacow, which serves as a major detention and intelligence center for the Somali government, has been a high-profile target in the past due to its significance in counterterrorism operations. Although no group has yet claimed responsibility, previous similar attacks in the capital have often been linked to the Al-Shabaab militant group.
Casualty figures remain unclear at this stage, and Somali authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident. Residents say the situation inside the facility appears tense, as sporadic gunfire could still be heard after the explosion.
The attack comes at a time when Somalia is stepping up security operations in Mogadishu and across the country in an effort to curb insurgent activity and stabilize the nation.
